What is the difference between a stabilizer bar and an anti–roll bar?

But when you look at the MPGs, not bad considering the weight gain.

50% heavier for only 25% more cost. So much added value.

Wow, hot hatches are in sub 6 second territory. As a fan of the genre I feel I should of known that. I wonder how I missed that.

Figure that the majority of the 1k lbs extra is size, safety, and comfort.

I would not want to be involved in an accident in an MK1. Nor would I want to take a road trip in one.

Here in Mexico I am most struck by the price increase. My “base” model manual comfortline costed exactly the same as what a MK5 GTI would in 2006.

I really love modern automotive engineering.

Today’s vehicles are safer, have more power, weigh more, and yet are more fuel efficient all at the same time.

What a time to be alive.

Are you kidding? I think the Golf R is sub 5 second territory. And if it’s not, it’s really god damn close.

Yeah I expected that but all the other Hatches from Seat, Honda, Renault etc were around 6.5 a few years ago and now suddenly they are all pushing 5 seconds. I wonder what changed, I assume diffs have got better.

More power, better deliver of power with said diffs, and the fact that the MQB architecture that underpins the Golf (and lord knows how many other vehicles in VAG’s empire) weighs less than the outgoing architecture that underpinned the last generation Golf.

I think they’re the same thing. Stabiliser bar is an American phrase which I haven’t heard used on my side of the pond.

I’ve only ever had crashes in car without airbags. I am a young man, since when have we cred about safety? Never.

But I agree with you on the cause of the bloat.

After test driving the 87 GTI 16v (new) which stickered at 14,600 I bought my 85 GTI with 39,000 miles on it for 7500 ( forcing dad to co-sign) and it really wasn’t that much different. It was still
